Mrs. Ellen Cox Martin
1889-1982
Mrs. Ellen Cox Martin, 92, of
Wayland died last Friday at the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital
following a long illness.
Born in the Rock Fork section of Knott
County near Wayland on November 25, 1889, she was a daughter of the late W.J.
and Elizabeth Castle Cox and was married to Walter Martin, who preceded her in
death in 1959. She had been a member of the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church
for 28 years.
Surviving her are four sons; Walter
Martin Jr. of Mt. Sterling, O., James Eugene Martin, of
Lyndon, O., George Palmer Martin of Hamilton, O., and Shirley R. Martin of
Hazard; seven daughters, Mrs. Anna Williams and Mrs. Bill Honshell both of
Wayland. Mrs. Myrtle Herigon of North Tonawanda, N.Y.,
Mrs. Janet Triplett, of Lousia, Mrs. Virginia (Tommie) Pack, of Lockport N.Y.,
Mrs. Jessie Lea Webb, of Hamilton O., and Mrs. Phyliss Lockhart, of Lexington.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, one foster grandson, and 36
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at
the Wayland United Methodist Church by the Revs. Mabry Holbrook and Warren
Toler. Burial was made in the Martin Cemetery under the direction of the Hall
Funeral Home.
