m. on Aug 19, 1869 Sarah Elizabeth Baldwin b. Jan 3 1953 d. Dec 3, 1937. Parents of William Shelby
VanHoose.William, about 16, was going to mill on the mule to have corn ground. He was taken captive by solders (no inf on
North or South) and was held until after the Civil War was
over. He had a hard time finding his way home. This story was told to me by my Dad, Don Marshall

[Sue's note] William (Willie) Shelby VanHoose b. Oct 20,1882 in Johnson Co. Ky d. Jan 9, 1943 in Johnson Co. Ky s/o John Wesley VanHoose & Sarah E Baldwin m. 1st Ethel Smith Oct 15, 1907 in Johnson County Ky. she died shortly after the birth of their baby boy who also died shortly after birth. Willie m. 2nd on Oct 20, 1910 in Johnson Co. Ky Gracie McCarty b. Jan 30, 1887 in Paintsville, Johnson Co. Ky. d/o James & Sarah Coldiron. This pic was probably taken 1916 in Carter Co.Ky.Gracie was pregnant with their son Don Marshall VanHoose who was born March 17, 1916. They moved back to Johnson Co. just before their daughter Opal was born.

Dayton, OH;
went to be
with the
Lord, Sunday
January 1,
2006
peacefully
in his sleep
at his
residence.
Don was born
in the
Paintsville,
KY area on
March 17,
1916 to
Willie and
Gracie
(McCarty)
VanHoose.
Don retired
from
Harrison
Radiator in
1972
following 30
years of
employment.
He was an
avid
fisherman
and
gardener. We
will most
miss his
homemade
cornbread
and stories
of down
home. He was
preceded in
death in
2002 by his
beloved
bride Belle
Long
VanHoose to
whom he was
married for
64 years; a
brother
Homer
VanHoose, 2
sisters Opal
Blanton;
Gypsy
Colvin.
Surviving
are 3
children Sue
VanHoose of
Dayton, Russ
(Stephanie)
VanHoose of
Versailles,
KY, and
Wilma (Rick)
Faerber of
Davis, IL; 5
grandchildren
Matt
(Charlotte)
VanHoose,
Jason (Jayme)
VanHoose,
Amy (Jeff)
Nemeth, Addi
Faerber, and
Jess Faerber;
6 great
grandchildren.
Visitation
will be
Wednesday,
January 4,
2006 from
5-8pm at
Anderson
Funeral
Home, 40 N.
Main St.,
Springboro,
OH. Funeral
services are
Thursday,
January 5,
2006 at 2pm
at
Miamisburg
Full Gospel
Tabernacle
with Rev.
Lonnie
Mitchell
officiating.
Burial will
be in
Highland
Memorial
Park. Family
will receive
friends
after
services at
the church
fellowship
hall.
