They Came To America

They came to a new land,
to make a new home,
They came in a group & families
and they came alone
They came for freedom,
for which many of them died
They lived, they laughed
and many of them cried

They fought the elements,
the Indians, and sickness
They prayed for strength
to overcome their weekness,
The hardships were many,
but they never turned back
A strong faith in God,
they did not lack

This land was a good place
to grow big and strong,
It was a land in which
they could all belong,
They built their homes
and made their roads,
Plowed their fields,
and carried their loads

Tho all their stories
can never been told,
We take what we've learned
forever to hold
I'm proud of these who
came and went before
I honor them now,
and forever more
